Last week’s Torah portion is Mishpatim which can be translated as “judgments.” Often when people hear about judgments they generally don’t have a good feeling about them. We go to the Judge who passes judgment. If we don’t pay certain debts judgments can be placed against you. When reading in Mishpatim we can clearly see that God’s judgments are right and just. We learn about fair social and punitive laws that show God’s people how to love God and love our neighbor as ourselves. Most people think that these fair and just laws have changed inthe new testament and that new covenant brethren are under a “new law.” Join Joel Allen as he goes through verse by verse and shows the continuity of the Old testament laws and the ones mentioned in the new testament.
